Cute DIY Pencil Bags!

As much as I hate to admit it, my senior year is quickly approaching. Every year I like to add a little bit of customization to my school supplies, because where is the fun in having the same things as everyone else?! I made my own pencil bag(s) this year (as I do every year). If you want I can do an actual tutorial on how to make them. I mean, all you really need to know how to do is sew in a straight like and put in a zipper. The tribal print one started as just plain black fabric. I added multiple trims that continue to the other side to add the tribal feel and the inside is a blue tie-dye. The floral one has a cute green zipper and coral tie-dye on the inside. :) Although, I'm not looking forward to the school year, I can still look forward to using these cute little bags!

Outfit of the Day: Party Animal

I apologize for my lack of posts the last few days! I have been touring colleges and what-not and have had hardly anytime to sit down and blog. But, I'm back! This was my outfit from yesterday (Saturday). I ran a few errands and then went to a party at night. Woot! Woot! I have finally perfected the top knot. Although it is probably the easiest thing in the world to do, it is nearly impossible when you have layers.

Outfit of the Day and New Hair!

Hey, guess what!?!? I got my hair cut! I now have full on bangs (instead of my side swept ones), a middle part, and new layers. Yesterday I went into my hair salon just to get a trim and decided on the spot that I wanted something new. I've wanted complete bangs for quite some time and I'm so glad I finally followed through with them!
Yesterday, I went out to brunch with a really good friend of mine and it was quite lovely. :) We went to a cafe/coffee house and I got a Belgian waffle which was really delicious :) Then, I got my hair cut and went to the mall. I found a stunning pair of pants, but they are on the verge of looking like pajama pants (I swear they are not!), so I'm still debating if I should buy them! But, knowing me, I will most likely buy them anyways because I love clothing the puts forward a challenge. :)

Music Inspiration: The Lion's Roar

Personally, I often find that I turn to music for fashion/art inspiration. Not only are the lyrics and overall sound of music inspiring, but also the cinematography that accompanies it. Recently, I have been completely obsessed with First Aid Kit. The sound of their music is so calming and really just makes me want to hike on some deserted trail and embrace nature. Hopefully, this song and music video will help inspire your fall wardrobe and encourage you to check out more of their music because it truly is amazing and has certainly inspired me.

Style Revival: Velvet

FINALLY, velvet is making a comeback. If you too are a velvet enthusiast, then this will be great news. Velvet has been chosen as the fabric for fall, which means you will be seeing it everywhere from Forever 21 to Saks. Woo! I really am excited to incorporate velvet into my wardrobe this fall. I actually plan on buying a pair of velvet combat boots I've has my eye on for quite some time. Because, I mean, whoever thought up the idea of mixing such an elegant fabric with such grungy boots was a GENIUS. Literally, the greatest thing ever. P.s. If you want to get your hands on velvet combats they currently have them at JcPenney. ;)
Some  higher end brands that are supporting velvet this fall is Louboutin, Marc Jacobs, Alexander McQueen ( My favorite designer in the history of fashion), and Jeffrey Campbell (my favorite shoe designer). But do not fret, if you don't want to spend your whole life savings on a single velvet item (because we all know how expensive McQueen can be), there are PLENTY of affordable alternatives. For example, you can go to Forever 21. However, if you are a thrifty shopper like me and love to hit up local thrift stores like it's your job, this is the PERFECT trend for you. Because velvet is a recycled trend, you can find so many velvet pieces in thrift stores. Given, they may need so TLC (nothing a washing machine, sewing machine, and cozy spot in your closet can't fix).
Possibly the greatest thing about this trend is that it is so versatile. It really can be incorporated with anyones style. For example, if you are into velvet sneakers (which I surprisingly love the style of), they make them! And better yet, THEY MAKE STUDDED PAIRS. Hold the phone, I know what your thinking. You're thinking "What kind of brilliant mastermind thought to mix sneakers, velvet, and studs?" I don't know but asos.com is selling them. However, just a warning, they are a bit more on the pricey side. And if velvet sneaks aren't your style, then you can opt for a velvet peplum skirt (so chic), or velvet mary-janes (I honestly can't get over how cute those are.) It really is up to you! However, if you don't like this trend, don't feel the need to conform to it and jump on the bandwagon. After all, this is the Native Nonconformist and I do not encourage you to conform to anything you are opposed to because where is the fun in that? :)

Outfit of the Day: Bohemian Mermaid

Last weekend I purchased this maxi dress from Urban Outfitters and I am completely in love with it! It's tie-dyed blue and green and is just stunning in every way. It reminds me of a gypsy mermaid. I really think it will be a nice transition piece into fall. It is strapless, but that is totally okay because I can just layer over it. ( I love to layer) This is actually the outfit I wore yesterday (Friday), but had technical difficulties with my camera so I'm posting it today! Last night I went out with some friends to the movie "The Campaign", which, by the way, is extremely hilarious and I recommend you go see it. Afterwards, we went out for froyo and it was extremely delicious! Plus, I didn't spill any froyo on my dress. woo! Three cheers for not being a clumsy eater!

What I'm Wearing:
Dress: Urban Outfitters
Cream, Fringe Overlay: PacSun
Feather Earrings: Forever 21
Wedges: TradeHome
Cuff Bracelet: Charming Charlie
Bangle Set: Kohls
Rings: Gifts and from New York
Necklace: Lucky Brand

Upcycling: High-Waisted Studded Shorts

This was a project from last month that I completed. I really, really love the outcome of them! They originally started as a high-waisted jeans that I purchased from the thrift store. From there, I cut off the legs to the desired length, folded up the bottom, and sewed so that the fold would not come undone (shorts coming unfolded is a huge pet peeve of mine). The last step was to stud them! I decided to only stud one side. Just a warning before tediously studding for hours, don't forget to put in a good movie! I was watching Disney channel re-runs which definitely put a damper on my two hours of straight studding!
